Therapists whose Type 10 and Type 73 Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) certificates have lapsed can now reinstate them immediately thanks to a new state law.
Certificates lapse six months from the expiration of the last registration. Before Senate Bill 3393 passed, therapists had to complete nine semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution of higher education “in the content area that most aligns with the educator’s endorsement area” to reinstate a lapsed certificate. Therapists also had to pay all back fees.
Under this new legislation, therapists can reinstate their certificates immediately by paying all back fees and a $500 penalty, or completing the same nine semester hours previously required.
