African American History Month

February is African American History Month! It is an to honor and celebrate the contributions African Americans have made to our great nation! 2013 is especially significant as it marks the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 50th Anniversary of the march on Washington by Martin Luther King Jr and other prominent civil rights figures.

As Healthcare providers it is important that we recognize the racial and ethnic disparities that remain in healthcare despite all of our momentous achievement towards a more equal and free nation. As clinicians it is important to be diligent with all of our patients, but it is prudent to take extra measures to reinforce the importance of medication, precautions, and education to at risk populations, which often include minorities.

The links below highlight the disparities between racial and ethnic groups  along with resources on how you can help decrease them.
